There’s a definite ‘art’ to successfully preparing for a family holiday.  

Now that school is over and holidays are here, getting organised for a break can often feel overwhelming.

Whether it be a family road trip, plane travel or close-to-home “staycation”, I’ve shared my top 10 tips to help you get organised for holiday travel.

1)   Do your research before hand, because a smooth, stress-free holiday begins well before you leave.

2)  Create a travel folder and keep all your travel information in a single spot. Include things like:

• Contact information (for accommodation, airlines, car rental and travel agents) 
• Air tickets, itineraries, maps, travel insurance, frequent flyer details 
• Passports – make sure they are valid

3)   Make lists – trust me, it helps:

• Personal “packing list” for each family member
• “Before we go list” so you don’t forget anything
• “Instructions list” (if applicable) for house/pet sitters

4) When it’s time to enter the packing zone try to remember to pack light, but pack right. I highly recommend using packing cubes. They’re my all time favourite item for travel because they keep everything neat, tidy and organised for the duration of your trip. 

5)  Holidays create such special memories, but if you have hungry bellies, it’s no fun. So to keep things running smoothly, I recommend you pack snacks, snacks and more snacks, in a small insulated bag and dont forget an ice pack.

6)  Ziplock bags are a travel “must have”.

7)  When it comes to “travel entertainment“, pack small toys, books, and games separately and dish them out one at a time.

8)  Don’t forget to take the necessary chargers and battery pack

9)  Decant toiletries into smaller bottles (or take the travel size)  – some people tend to take a huge amount of unecessary items. Not only do they take up a lot of space, but they’re heavy and bulky.  Also make sure you have packed medication, first aid, hats and sunscreen.

10)  Rather be safe then sorry and keep valuable and irreplaceable items on you.  And pack your jewellery carefully so that it doesn’t get all tangled.
